2nd Annual SCARABAT
Sausan Academy of Egyptian Dance Presents
A Day of Belly Dance at Golden Gate Park Music Concourse
Representing San Francisco Bay Area Belly Dance Schools
Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM
San Francisco, September 12, 2012 — In keeping with her ambition and desire to continually introduce and expose belly dance (Raqs Sharqi) to the general public, Sausan has created a day of belly dance in Golden Gate Park, the first of its kind ever in San Francisco. Belly dance teachers from all over the San Francisco Bay Area are invited to showcase their dance school, knowledge, and expertise with performances and printed material. Scarabat, meaning many beetles or scarabs -- a highly revered insect of ancient Egypt -- will commence with its many different and varied performances under the generic name of belly dance on October 13 at 12:00 noon and will go non-stop to 4:00 PM.
Dance styles will include but not be limited to Classic Egyptian, American Tribal, Fusion, Belly Dance Fitness, American Modern, Egyptian Modern and many more.
In addition to these exciting and high energy performances, belly dance teachers will be offering printed material as well as personal expert information on belly dance and of their dance school to interested park goers. Park goers will have the opportunity to enjoy a day in the park with free performances with the opportunity to sign up on the spot for classes scheduled for later dates based on their teacher/performance preference and style.

Scarabat is the brainchild of one of San Francisco’s most noted belly dance master teachers and choreographers, Sausan. With the collaboration of the many accomplished and experienced belly dance teachers and choreographers of the San Francisco Bay Area, Scarabat is the vehicle to opening up the fun and enjoyable aspect of belly dance as well as the education of its roots to mainstream park goers. To fully partake in the day’s performance atmosphere of Scarabat, park goers are encouraged to wear Egyptian/belly dance style apparel.

About the Presenter:
Sausan began her belly dance studies in 1974. In 2000, she opened her dance academy and has been producing quality and accomplished dance performers since 2001. As well as an internationally and nationally known master choreographer and teacher, Sausan is the principal register of the Egyptian Dance Code®, a teaching principal under which she teaches belly dance classes.
Sausan has modeled herself as an authority on Egyptian Dance using the 1930’s through the 1990’s Egyptian film industry as her foundation. As a pillar in the belly dance community, Sausan hopes to portray belly dance to the general public in a more respectable light with the teachers’ presence providing them an opportunity to answer questions that the general public may have about belly dance. Sausan continues to keep alive in the fertile soil of Bay Area dance-theatre, the importance of Classic Egyptian Style (CES) belly dance -- one of the many belly dance styles -- through her works.
