Classes & Courses

We offer several different types of dance study. Some are specialty courses, others are academic courses. We even have single walk-in classes on EDC® technique and must-know music, so that you can "try on" the class to see if it "fits."

Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, ABP
Intro to EDC®, Upper body technique.
Basic movement, travel steps, and video study.
1st Qtr Tues. - January - March; 5:30pm - 7:00pm
2nd Qtr Tues. - April - June; 7:30pm - 9:00pm
3rd Qtr Wed. - July - September; 5:30pm - 7:00pm
4th Qtr Wed. - October - December; 7:30pm - 9:00pm
Primary Course is the first of a one-year all-inclusive dance program. 1.5 hrs; $199/12 classes

Golden Era
on Mohamed Ali Street

Challenge yourself as a professional as well as an entertainer! This opportunity is open to all belly dancers to publicize, promote, and capitalize on performances.

Golden Era music preferred but not mandatory. Let's bring back the Golden Era of Egypt at Al-Masri Egyptian Restaurant where all dancers can perform under the street sign, Mohamed Ali Street! Badiya Al-Masabni would be proud.

Offered EVERY LAST Sunday of the month.

Open to anyone studying belly dance of any genre.
-
20% commission from dinners (all-you-can-enjoy buffet dinners - $29/ea, sans alcoholic drinks) reserved and dined in dancer's name.

Music must be 9 - 12 minutes, choreographed/improvised.
-
Finger cymbals (sagat) optional.
-
Appropriate costume required.
-
Up to four dancers per night, depending on guests. Less than four, longer show.

Choreograph your own or credit another’s piece.

Arrive at 7pm; show begins at 7:30pm..

Dinner complimentary to performers, not transferrable.

About Sausan

Master Teacher of the Sausan Academy of Egyptian Dance, San Francisco, CA since 2000

Owner/Executive Chef of Al-Masri Egyptian Restaurant, San Francisco, CA since 1999

Owner/Baker/Distributor of Bitchin’ Baklava Middle Eastern Desserts and Savory Pies since 2012

Author/Researcher/Historian/Publisher of SAED Reference Media, since 1993.
Decades of national/international dance study, travel, performance (nightclubs, restaurants, telegrams, Egyptian-inspired dance operettas, festivals, museums, universities, colleges, lectures, corporate events, military bases, etc.), instruction -- media and in-person, researcher and writer, and overall, all-inclusive decades of dance experience since 1974. Sausan's two most influential teachers are Jodette Silhi Johnson of Sacramento from 1974 to 1977, and Nakish of San Francisco from 1979 to 1982.
Sausan is in the process of writing a book -- or two-- entitled Celebrating on a Scarab about her life experiences. This book, containing recipes, articles, and photos, is currently in progress. She also has developed a line of bohemian-style jewelry she sells under the name of Scaraboo, which is on display at her restaurant, Al-Masri. Instructional videos on the EDC® are currently in the making.
